Science, Math and Engineering Tutors
Kathy U.
Kathy has been tutoring students locally since 2006. She taught hands on science classes to elementary school students through the Lyceum of Monterey County. Kathy earned a National Merit Scholarship and UC Regents' Scholarship while a student at York (class of '95). Kathy graduated cum laude from UCSD with a BS in Biology: Ecology, Behavior and Evolution in 1999. She is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. Kathy has four years experience as an environmental scientist, working on water and soil quality projects with Kinnetic Laboratories Inc. in Santa Cruz. She stays busy caring for her beautiful daughter, born in 2008. She also plays mandolin, and sings Alto in the Monterey Symphony Chorus.
Willie W.
Willie graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from MIT in 2005. As an undergrad, Willie did extensive research on Steganography and Artificial Intelligence at the MIT Media Lab. Since then, he has been living and working in the Bay Area on various entrepreneurial efforts. Aside from work, Willie tends to spend a disproportionate amount of his time playing sports and reading more than he should. He also loves to travel and speaks decent Spanish and atrocious Portuguese.
Jennifer W.
Jennifer received her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Sciences from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 2010, with a specialization in physical therapy. Her overall cumulative GPA at UHM was a 3.75 with a 4.0 in kinesiology subject matter. She graduated high school number eight in her class with a 4.33 GPA and top honors. Jennifer passed her AP Biology exam with a 5. While in college, she mentored and tutored student-athletes at UHM in subjects such as structural kinesiology, biomechanics, exercise physiology, and advanced anatomy/physiology. In her free time, Jennifer enjoys ballet, freelance photography, and volleyball.
Christy B.
Christy graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2001 with a bachelor’s degree in aquatic biology with high honors. After working as an ecologist for 3 years, she moved to Davis to attend graduate school. While at Davis, she received a prestigious National Science Foundation fellowship. Her research focuses on the ecology of mudflat invertebrates. Christy has worked as a UC Davis biology teaching assistant and taught marine science outreach programs for elementary through high school students. Christy is currently finishing her PhD while living in beautiful Monterey.

Patrick E.
Patrick graduated from the University of California at Santa Barbara with his B.A. in English in 2000. While completing his master’s from CSU Sacramento, Patrick began tutoring students in the Writing Center and fell in love with teaching writing, accepting a Teaching Associate position in the English Department. He taught college composition and basic writing before graduating, moving on to teach composition, basic writing, and writing for international students at Sacramento City College. Patrick then returned for two years as a doctoral student at UC Santa Barbara, completing his coursework in “language, literacy, and composition,” studying writing in a social science setting, taking education as well as psychology courses, engaging in research, and much more. He currently is adjunct professor of English at Monterey Peninsula College and studies John Steinbeck in his own time.
Foreign Language Tutors
Maria D.
Maria was born and raised in San Juan, Argentina, graduating from the
National University of San Juan with a Professional degree in
Architecture in 1987. She has experience in public, and private school
environments. She worked with students on one-on one setting to
improve their language skills in Spanish and or English. Her language
fluency for interpretation and translation services was highly
recognized in Los Angeles and Denver where she worked before moving to
the Bay Area. In her spare time Maria enjoys hiking, cooking, and
volunteering at schools.
Sue A.
Sue is a native Californian from Palo Alto, lived in France for 26 years and is bilingual / bi-cultural / bi-national. At UC Berkeley, she studied French, Italian and Latin, where she graduated with a BA in French Literature, with distinction in general scholarship. In France, she worked in a university library, pursued additional studies, worked as a computer programmer and technical writer, all while teaching English to bank, music, science and marketing professionals (Lancôme, L'Oréal). For the past 15 years, she has been teaching both French and English to children and adults of all ages and abilities, providing life-skills training to the lesser-able, guiding parents of special needs children and leading a non-profit organization to enable special needs children with a quality education in France. She has also advised French students in their search for, and application process to, American universities. Sue loves teaching, learning, being a mother, socializing and international exchange of ideas. And as all good French people, she loves eating and talking about food.
